Salmon Lantern Workshop

Renfrew-Collingwood’s Still Creek is one of only 5 salmon-bearing streams in Vancouver. Watch for them this Autumn, and carry your salmon lantern proudly at the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival’s Twilight Lantern Parade on Sept 21.

Renfrew Ravine Nature & History Tour

Local artist and ravine champion Carmen Rosen will lead you through one of Vancouver’s significant urban forests while telling stories of lost streams, old timers, plants, animals and eco-art. This tour will give you a new perspective on Renfrew Ravine and Still Creek, the impact that a creek can have on a community, and that a community can have on an urban creek and the nature it supports.

Mooncake Making Workshop

Learn the art of making mooncakes. A cherished tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival, mooncakes are a delicious treat to share with friends and family.
This fan-favourite workshop is a partnership between Still Moon Arts Society and Collingwood Neighbourhood House, and there is priority registration for newcomers.
Bring your own container to take your treats home to share!

Natural Dye Truth & Reconciliation Workshop
Join facilitators Varsha Gill and LoriAnn Bird (Snyder) to learn about the dyeing process while spending quality time with others in the community.
Throughout the workshop, we will discuss the importance of Truth and Reconciliation and reflect on how we are working towards decolonization in our own lives.
Please be aware that Orange Shirt Day is a solemn day of remembrance. We highly encourage you to check out the “How We Learn Together ” document from fellow community arts organization EartHand Gleaners to get a sense of what we expect from the folks joining us.

Tea, Tunes and Verse in the Garden

Enjoy a cup of tea in the garden during an artistic evening of music, poetry, and dance performances.
Music and Spoken-Word Performances by Dani Zhang, Mina Chan, Sheila Rosen, Jennifer Getsinger, Dominic Grimm and Deb Hartford.
Special performance: The fashioned Sound Body is a music and dance performance using hand-woven electronic textiles to weave the threads of sound and movement together. Dancer and Choreographer Isabelle Kirouac; Musician, Composer, and Weaver Isaac Rufus. Special thanks to Emma Sise and Nicola Hodges for weaving instruction and tips.
Textiles created by local artisans will be on display, including back-strap loom weavings from different cultures.
Local artisans will have items available for purchase.
To accompany the tea, we will have pastries from La Saison de Patisserie available for purchase.

Full Moon Labyrinth Walk

Festival Main Day | Saturday, September 21
The main festival day transitions through four events and travels between two venues.
For the full Moon Festival experience, we encourage you to come for the whole journey.
Drop-ins are welcome to join us along the way at any of the four events.

Harvest Fair
Kick off the Moon Festival’s main day! Enjoy a relaxed afternoon of performances and activities in Slocan Park. Listen to local music, create a lantern for the upcoming parade, purchase creations by local artisans, and enjoy a light dinner of harvest soup and snacks from local eateries.

Twilight Lantern Procession
Walk with colourful puppets and performers among surprising sounds and sights. We invite you to carry a lantern with you! The procession leads from the Harvest Fair to Streamside Lanterns, following the Renfrew Ravine and Still Creek below.
Labyrinth: As the procession passes the Renfrew Ravine labyrinth, you may choose to linger to walk the labyrinth and listen to the music of Tanglewood Duo before continuing to Streamside Lanterns at Renfrew Community Park. Tanglewood Duo will perform at the labyrinth from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, stop by anytime.

Finale Performance:
Consciousness of Streams
This performance contemplates the lost streams buried beneath the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood. Created by award-winning choreographer Isabelle Kirouac, it features dance, stilt performers, shadow theatre and live music.

This year’s Consciousness of Streams performance is the third and final installment of a three-part performance series that began in 2022.
Tiddley Cove Morris will welcome the audience to the field at 8:15 PM with a dance performance immediately before Consouceness of Streams begins.
