Join us for an afternoon of live music, tasty snacks, and community celebration at the unveiling of the Salmon Creek Mosaic Mural at Renfrew Community Centre!
Created by artist Yoko Tomita with the help of over 100 community volunteers, this stunning new mural honours the salmon that have been returning to spawn in Vancouver’s Still Creek since 2012, and the community volunteer stewardship that has made their return possible after an absence of 80 years.

The Salmon Creek Mural is a project by Still Moon Arts Society and lead artsist Yoko Tomita with contributing artist Carmen Rosen. It was created with support from the Neighbourhood Matching Fund, the Renfrew Park Community Association, Collingwood Neighbourhood House and many community volunteers!
Performers & Speakers
Eagles Inspirit Protecting Indigenous Fathers Society

A 100% Indigenous-led organization, with all society founders of Indigenous ancestry and/or First Nations Indian status. This society was created to bridge gaps in services for Indigenous fathers, with a strong focus on decolonizing service delivery and using culture, traditions and ceremonies to promote healing and well-being for Indigenous fathers who come to enjoy the sacred and safe space they provide.
Yoko Tomita

Yoko Tomita is a community artist who has worked in the Renfrew-Collingwood Neighbourhood for over 20 years. She has been actively involved with Collingwood Neighbourhood House, Renfrew Park Community Centre, and the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival. She has facilitated countless community art classes and community-engaged art projects during that time, including several mosaics and murals in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood.
Tiddley Cove Morris

Performance: Tiddley Cove Morris
Bio: Tiddley Cove Morris Dancers & Musicians is a diverse and welcoming Morris dance and live musicians group. Established in 1986, they are based in East Van, BC, Canada (not the semi-fictional Tiddley Cove, but the name was too much fun to pass up!) They welcome new members. You certainly don’t have to be English (most of them aren’t!), just enthusiastic, energetic and willing to have fun with a great community.
Los Cabros

Performance: Los Cabros
Description: Los Cabros will perform music that fuses Chilean folklore, acoustic rock dynamics, and other Latin American musical elements.
Bio: Los Cabros is a recently-formed band of friends with similar musical tastes that have all performed live music in various projects. They combine and fuse all their musical tastes into Los Cabros, celebrating their Chilean heritage and love of performing live music.
Thistle Hart

Performance: Thistle Hart
Description: Thistle Hart performs with vocals and banjo. He keeps tempo with a handmade suitcase drum, creating vibrant and lively, melancholy, or humorous songs for the audience to enjoy.
Bio: Thistle Hart is a singer/songwriter raised in BC’s Lower Mainland. Currently based out of Vancouver, he uses his banjo and voice to reach people with his intimate lyrical writing. His music draws inspiration from Hozier, The Amazing Devil, and Pete Seeger, with an alt-folk feel to much of his work. Thistle writes from his life and experiences as someone who grew up in the unique biome that is the Lower Mainland, and as a trans person.
Carmen Rosen

Carmen Rosen (she/her) is a visual artist, singer, and interdisciplinary performer. She has a long history of initiating art projects and creative community integrated projects. Through Still Moon and in collaboration with many community partners, she created the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival and other projects and events that shed light on Renfrew Ravine, Still Creek, salmon in the city, and the community’s creative capacity. She leads workshops about natural dyes, lantern-making, giant puppets, and costume-making.

Getting There
- There are several entry points into the park, but the closest one to this event is down the stairs on the west side of the Renfrew Community Centre. A wheelchair accessible entrance can be accessed from Nootka St at E 20th Ave.
- The width of the ramp is 3.8 feet.
- Bus numbers #16 and #25 will take you 1 minute away from the entrance points.
- Parking is limited.
- We recommend walking, taking the bus, riding your bike, or carpooling when possible.
Accessibility
- The mural can be viewed on the west wall of the community centre. The food and music will be situated in the forested area below the mural. Travelling between these two event spacesr equires use of stairs, assistance from a volunteer, or exiting the park and reentering it from a different entrance (Nootka St. vs. Refnrew St.)
- The mural can be reached via a wheelchair accessible park entrace on Nootka St between 20th and 21st (parking is also available here).
- The food and music (below the mural) can be accessed via a wheelchair accessible dirt path leading down to the forest area from the park’s parking lot on Renfrew Street. The width of the ramp is 3.8 feet.
- Accessible washrooms are available at the Renfrew Public Library, which can be accessed via a ramp from 22nd Ave.
- Accessible washrooms are also avialable inside the Renfrew Park Community Centre, and be reached via a wheelchair accesible route from the park entrance from Nootka St between 20th and 21st.
- Gender universal washrooms will be available in the Renfrew Community Centre.
- Washrooms at the Community Centre and the Library both close at 5PM.
- There are benches located within the park and limited folding chairs will be available.
