
Harvest Fair
The Harvest Fair marks the beginning of the Moon Festival. Attendees enjoy diverse music by local artists, attend eco-arts workshops, play games, interact with community booths and enjoy a bowl of Harvest Soup. It also features the popular Harvest Fair vegetable competition, celebrating the neighborhood’s best homegrown produce.

Vegetable Competition: It’s not always about the biggest – how about the weirdest, most adorable, silly looking, sassy, or tall vegetable? If you have a vegetable garden, think of what special vegetable you’d like to enter in this year’s Vegetable Competition!
Community Booths: Chat with local nonprofits and businesses! You can expect: Artists Helping Artists, Vancouver Fruit Tree Project, Red Fox, Collingwood Neighborhood House Food Security, United Warriors and more!
Food and Drink: Enjoy a bowl of Harvest Soup made by your local neighborhood house. Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available and food trucks may be on site!
Future Visioning: Check our Still Moon’s Youth Committee’s feature project, visioning Still Creek in 20 years.
As the sun sets we will walk the path of the lost streams in the Lost Streams Parade. Remember to bring your lanterns!

Streamside Lantern Installation
The Streamside Lantern Installation is the magical heart of the Moon Festival. This evening spectacle welcomes guests to walk through a beautifully transformed Renfrew Community Park, filled with giant lanterns and illuminated art — accompanied by enchanting live music and set against a magnificent backdrop of towering trees.

Equinox Moon Music & Dyer’s Guild Showcase
Still Moon is excited to celebrate the Fall Equinox at our Colour Me Local Dye Garden where we grow plants known for their natural dye properties.
This Fall Equinox, we present an installation by the Still Moon Dyer’s Guild of their natural dye explorations. Many of the pieces were created with plant matter grown in the Colour Me Local dye garden. We will celebrate with an evening of music by Qiu Xia He, tea, cookies, and art activities. Drop by anytime during the evening to hear melodic, ambient sounds and see fabric transformed by nature.
We encourage you to bring any of your own art/craft projects to work on while we sit and listen to the music (i.e. knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sketching, you name it!), a lawn chair, and a cup for your warm beverage.

Eco-Arts & Stewardship Event:
Invoking Beaconsfield Wetland
With the incoming creation of the wetland at Beaconsfield Park, Still Moon wants to gather to celebrate this important green infrastructure. The evening will feature an immersive audio installation and a presentation based on wetlands, their processes and ecological importance. Featuring sound artists Brady Marks + Mark Timmings (Wetland Project) and Giorgio Manganesi (West Coast Radians), the location of the future wetland will be animated with a very special spatialized sound performance. We’ll be outside so please bring your layers and warm clothing and comfy outdoor chair!

Still Suite by Treesong
Showcased at the Streamside Lantern Installation, Still Suite uses light, sound, lyric and movement to celebrate the holistic “one-ness” of life-energy and environment. Expect an immersive and experiential walk through during this year’s Streamside Lantern Installation as dancers move amongst you and hand carved wooden Fuhorns sonify the space. Elements of audience participation can be expected.

Eco-Arts & Stewardship Event:
Drop Spindling with Sharon Kallis
Join us for an evening of spinning with Sharon Kallis from EartHand Gleaners Society! In this 3 hour workshop you will be given an introduction to the drop spindle and learn how to spin different types of fibres.
Working primarily with clean, raw fleece from Barnston Island, participants will learn about stable length, opening up fibres, hand carding basics, and the principles for adding twist and managing a drop spindle. Participants will leave with small cards of their handspun wool to take home in time for sweater mending!
Optional: All participants will be invited to bring their handspun wool to a Moon Festival event on September 22nd where they will dye their wool with materials grown in Still Moon’s natural dye garden.

20th Anniversary Feature:
Consciousness of Streams
Event Location 1: Renfrew Ravine Labyrinth
Enjoy a walking meditation from 6:00 – 6:45 PM with musical accompaniment by the Quasimodals band.
At 6:50 PM, Consciousness of Streams commences. Dancers and community members unravel and move with hand-dyed streamers made by the Still Moon’s Dyers Guild. The piece is set to an original music score composed by Isaac Rosen-Purcell.
Event Location 2: Slocan Park
Musicians will guide us from the Labyrinth to the Harvest Fair at Slocan Park. There, the second scene of Consciousness of Streams featuring community stiliters and aerial movement will take place. At sunset, Consciousness of Streams will join the Lost Streams Parade and lead the audience along the lost streams route to Collingwood Park.
Event Location 3: Collingwood Park
Upon arrival at Collingwood Park the Coastal Wolfpack will share a closing ceremony. Consciousness of Streams, scene three, will bring the night to a close with an interdisciplinary finale featuring light and shadow play, stilters, hand-dyed banners and an interpretive story of the lost streams.
At the end of the evening folks have an opportunity to connect and reflect over a cup of hot chocolate. We invite you to join any section of the performance or move alongside the performers from start to finish.

Lost Streams Parade
At twilight, a lantern-lit parade led by Indigenous performance group, Coastal Wolfpack, leads stilt performers, giant puppets, and attendees along the path of Lost Streams to Collingwood Park. At Collingwood Park we will gather and hear from Coast Wolf Pack, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and see the culmination of this year’s 20th Anniversary Feature, Consciousness of Streams.

Eco-Art Supply Workshop: Paper Making with Invasives (4:15 PM – 5:15 PM)
Join Artist Joshua Ralph in turning English Ivy, Reed Canary Grass, Tansy, Creeping Buttercup and other invasive plants to paper! Join in for an hour on learning about the impacts of common invasive plants of the Lower Mainland and how to identify species. Project support from Canada Service Corps, Rising Youth, and Opus Art Supplies.

Salve Making with Lori Snyder (4:15 PM – 5:15 PM + 5:45 PM – 6:45 PM)
Explore the practice of medicine making with Lori Snyder, Indigenous Metis herbalist. Learn what plants are best suited to medicinal infusions, when to harvest them and how to prepare and store them appropriately. Participants will make their own salve ointments with plant infused oils and beeswax, ideal for treating cuts, wounds, scrapes, sunburned skin, dry hands and chapped lips. All supplies included.

Mooncake Workshop with Food Justice
Learn the art of making mooncakes! A cherished tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival, mooncakes are a delicious treat to share with family and friends.
Join us on September 7th from 6:30 – 7:30 PM at Collingwood Neighbourhood House Annex to make and savour mooncakes with instructor Elliott Chiu. A partnership between Still Moon Arts Society, Renfrew-Collingwood Food Justice, and Collingwood Neighbourhood House.

Free Form Lantern Workshop with Yoko Tomita
Facilitating Artist, Yoko Tomita, will walk you through the process of designing, building, and finishing a traditional lantern over the course of two days. Yoko brings over 20 years of lantern-making experience to the room and has worked with artists of all levels. If you’re a first time lantern maker or experienced artist, this workshop is for you!
Schedule:
Day 1: Design the lantern form and create the frame of your lantern’s shape with bamboo & wire..
Day 2: Bring form and colour to your lantern using tissue paper. Smother it in to make it water resistant! Apply layers of tissue paper with diluted white glue on the skeleton shape and place LED lights to illuminate your lantern.
The Fun Part:
Walk with your lantern in Lost Streams Lantern Parade on September 10th and Streamside Lantern Installation on September 17th. Let your lantern and your inner creative shine!
Please note workshop attendees must come both workshop days to complete their lantern.

Yoko Tomita is originally from Osaka Japan. She is a community artist at East Vancouver creating community engaged art projects in visual arts, mosaics, lanterns, textile art and teaching acrylic painting, drawing and sketching class. Her diverse expression of arts shows connection to nature is main theme which brings smiles and cheer to the public.
