“Carmen led our ECUAD Field Class through a dynamic and informative tour of Renfrew Ravine. The students were captivated by the range of projects and history that she covered within a short distance, giving a thorough introduction of the possibilities and impact a community-engaged artist can have within a community and ecosystem.”
– Jaymie s, Interdisciplinary Artist and Educator

“Carmen Rosen of Still Moon Arts Society and I have led a tour of Still Creek watershed for the past 4 years as part of the City of Burnaby’s annual Environment Week program.  Her historical and environmental knowledge of Still Creek and her enthusiasm are the highlight of the tour!  Still Moon’s engagement of the community in this way is so important to the sustainability of this urban waterway.”

“Still Moon Arts swoop into the classroom and have students transform inanimate piles of recycled materials and seemingly average objects into glowing lanterns and flapping birds. Facilitators are supportive, clear, organized and easy to work with. They foster an environment of fun and inventiveness where students become artists who use creativity not only for their own enjoyment but as a tool to engage the community in important ecological and social issues.”
– Megan Thom, Windermere Leadership Program Coordinator

Community-Engaged Art Talks

Still Moon Arts’ Artistic Director Carmen Rosen has been working with community to co-create works of art since the late 90s. In 2010, she won the Mayor’s Arts Award for Community-Engaged Art. Carmen can come to your school, organization, or community group and share her vast knowledge and experience on social practice art and community engagement with diverse people.

A 90 minute experience.

“Carmen’s work to promote Still Creek and the Renfrew Ravine brings the importance of place, joy, and art to the often difficult and technical work of restoring this wonderful ecosystem. Her passion is equally matched by her knowledge of the system and its history, bringing this fragile, important system to life for audiences. Carmen reminds us that the key to restoring our damaged urban environments is to have people, communities care about these places and to understand the value they bring to our lives – and to nature.”
– Sean Markey, Professor, School of Resource and Environmental Management at Simon Fraser University
