Forager’s Feasts

About

Join us at one of Still Moon’s seasonal community potlucks celebrating the abundance of the natural world and our local food systems!

Our Forager’s Feasts began in 2019 as a medium for bringing together people from diverse communities to share and connect over food. These evening potlucks feature delicious dishes that are made with ethically foraged or homegrown ingredients, prepared by guests and Still Moon Arts staff. Through these Feasts, we encourage a closer relationship with our food, slowing down and enjoying food, and meeting others who also care about local slow food.

Attending a feast is an opportunity for you to practice your growing or ethical foraging skills. “Ethical foraging” is the process of harvesting food from nature while maintaining a reciprocal relationship with the land, by giving back and nurturing the life that grows in place of what we take. We encourage guests to respect the plants and the ecosystem – to take only what you need, and never in excess.

Each Forager’s Feast also features an artist, elder or scientist to speak on a topic surrounding art, culture and environment. We have partnered with Resurfacing History, an Indigenous knowledge-sharing program that facilitates a process of land-based teachings with local Indigenous communities. At past Forager’s Feasts, guests have learned about topics such as the relationship between the land and Indigenous food systems, mycology’s interaction with our environment and the importance of practicing reciprocity with the land.

Forager’s Feasts are free to attend – we ask that guests bring in a dish containing at least one ingredient that they have ethically foraged or grown at home. Whether you are a seasoned forager or you are learning about foraging for the first time, we welcome you to join us with your best culinary efforts and to take part in the process of giving!

COVID-19 NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to hold Forager’s Feasts until further notice. We hope that you will join us again when it is safe to do so!
