Slocan Park Wetland Planting

Still Moon is hosting a community planting party to help create a wetland at Slocan Park! Join us to plant water-loving plants at the site. The event will feature a welcome from Indigenous Métis Author, Herbalist, & Educator Lori Snyder, live music by Alex Chishom & Russell Sholberg, facepainting, button-making, and free snacks!

Why a wetland? This event is apart of a project by the City of Vancouver and the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation to create a new ephemeral wetland at the park. It will restore some of the natural benefits of the wetlands once common in the neighbourhood, reducing flooding and drought, providing habitat for pollinators and birds, and filtering pollution from Still Creek.

Indigo Dye Batik Workshop

Join us for a full-day, meditative, hands-on workshop to learn about the art of batik. This introductory-level workshop will walk you through the basics of how to use a canting, a traditional pen-like tool used to design batik tulis or “handwritten” batik. You’ll also learn about specific batik patterns and the history of how fabric can be used as a form of storytelling. After creating your design on a large cotton handkerchief, you will dye it using a natural indigo dye bath.
