Sarah Ross House is a temporary modular housing complex in the Renfrew-Collingwood community, located at 4480 Kaslo St., across the street from Slocan Park and the Alder Eco-Arts Hub. The building provides 50 housing units for people who were experiencing homelessness. Since the opening of Sarah Ross House in 2018, Still Moon has run workshops and events for the building’s residents, providing them with opportunities to engage in community activity and integrate into the neighbourhood.
Art and Dessert Events
From 2020 to 2023, Art and Dessert engaged Sarah Ross House residents with the intention of welcoming them and ensuring they feel safe in the community. Still Moon hosts monthly events combining art, conversation, and dessert. Art events include activities such as making masks, terrariums, t-shirt dyeing with natural dyes, lanterns, and art cards. Other nights we facilitate talks and skills sharing by Indigenous knowledge keepers who share healing teas, herbal salves with local plants, and traditional stories with the residents. Still Moon’s Sarah Ross House programming aligns with our values bringing nature, art and community connection to everyone in the neighbourhood.
Sarah Ross House Community Mural
In August 2020, Still Moon Arts is collaborating with Sarah Ross House to paint a mural on the fence with themes developed in collaboration with residents. The community painting day is scheduled for August 15th.
